Voldeta Attended DENOG16

DENOG16, held from November 17 to 19, 2024, brought together professionals from Germany’s networking community for in-depth discussions on industry advancements, challenges, and best practices. As part of our commitment to supporting knowledge exchange, a Voldeta representative attended and actively contributed to the event’s communication efforts as a volunteer.

Key Highlights from DENOG16

  • Introduction of RPKI at the Deutsche Telekom Global Network AS3320
    This session covered the phased rollout of RPKI (Resource Public Key Infrastructure) at Deutsche Telekom’s AS3320 network, completed in February 2024. The presentation detailed the implementation process, technical challenges, and organizational considerations for maintaining RPKI operations within a global Tier-1 ISP.
  • Deployment of a Multi-Vendor EVPN-Based Data Center Fabric Using Netbox and Ansible
    This talk provided insights into the deployment of a new data center fabric supporting multiple vendors and different network operating systems (NOS). Key discussion points included:
    • Efficient use of Netbox with Ansible for automation
    • Managing Ansible across multi-vendor environments
    • Challenges encountered in building a multi-vendor EVPN fabric from scratch
  • IPv4 over IPv6 Networks
    A deep dive into the implementation of RFC8950, which enables IPv4 NLRI (Network Layer Reachability Information) to be carried over IPv6 next hops, ensuring seamless interoperability and transition strategies for modern networks.

  • NIS2 Implementing Act for Digital Services – EU Regulation Maze Revisited
    An update on the evolving cybersecurity regulatory landscape in the EU, focusing on the NIS2 directive. The session addressed specific technical and methodological requirements for digital service providers and the challenges of regulatory compliance.
  • Measuring the State of DNS Privacy: Past, Present, and Future
    This presentation explored the increasing centralization of DNS traffic and its impact on security and privacy. Key topics included:
    • The adoption of DNS privacy-enhancing protocols
    • Performance trade-offs in encrypted DNS communications
    • Future solutions for achieving both privacy and performance in DNS operations
